Mastery is always an important part of human behaviour. If you were a Neanderthal hunter, you went hunting and found the most consistent way of obtaining food for your family, or you perished. As evolution has proven, you only have to travel to the supermarket and have enough money in your bank account to achieve the same masterful outcome as our predecessors.
In today’s fast paced world, few people expect to take the time to consistently apply themselves to achieve their goals. They want the outcomes of their desires now!
At Painless Universal, the years of experience and consistent approach to achieving mental health and physical well-being is important. With each and every person or organisation I talk to, the concept of consistency plays an important part. After all, how can improvements happen if you never know where you started and what you did to get to the place you are now?
Many people struggle with consistency, so how can we help everyone on this path to mental preparedness of discipline and consistency? I believe it comes down to a very simple principle: that you have the power within you to change your life.
Here are a few simple steps to live by:
- Consistency should not be a chore; it should be embraced as something you love to do every day. You must condition your belief system to accept that.
- Realise the hard truth that achieving anything of value or meaning your life requires being consistent over a long horizon.
- Don’t start and stop without finishing. If you change one thing in your behaviour it should be complete what you started as it reflects consistency but also the commitment to achieve.
Finally, it’s OK to not be 100% consistent, but you should consciously recognise when you are doing so.
Sounds simple – it is not. The good news is you can start your path to mastery anytime, just be consistent after you make that commitment to change.
